Juicy Gems: Small Square Watercolors Saturday Workshop
Date: Saturday, May 30, 2026 Time: 10 am - 4 pm. Pack a lunch. Location: Shenandoah Valley Art Center, 416 Main St., Waynesboro VA Level:Beginner to advanced. Cost: $170
Join us for a fun day of experimenting with familiar subjects in new ways. Our focus will be on the bounty of the season: fruits, vegetables, and flowers. Inspired by their colors and shapes, we will learn how to compose three small (5.5 x 5.5) still lifes in a square shape. We will start them with a wet-in-wet watercolor technique, We'll develop them so that some of the painting remains out of focus, and some is more detailed. We will learn how to add highlights, shadows and cast shadows to give the subjects form. We will add soft pastel, watercolor crayon, watercolor pencil or ink to give the painting more life. Each student will leave with at least three colorful paintings (mostly complete, depending upon your pace) and a mat. Each would make a perfect gift! This workshop would also be good preparation if you are entering a 6X6 competition. A materials list will be sent soon after you sign up.

Comments from a student in my last class:
"Peg Sheridan surpasses any expectations anyone could have. She is very knowledgeable of all types of watercolor artists' styles and expressions. Unlike most, she is able to share that with her students in a way that inspires. Peg goes way behond what one would expect for prepping and delivering a wonderful lesson. She is very kind and always offering a positive comment to help each individual improve. She is a talented artist, a great teacher, and a person anyone would benefit in knowing. I am so happy I joined her classes."
