You can paint with watercolors! All of the paintings above were painted by my students. My classes fill up quickly, so don't wait. Registration information is below. Keep checking; more classes will be added soon. Recent comments from my students:
"Everyone told me that I would not like watercolors, because you cannot fix mistakes. Not true! You can fix mistakes, just as easy as in any other medium. Peg will show you how!"
"Peg offers instructions but allows you to create your own vision from what she suggests. Peg is respectful of your efforts, offering encouragement and suggestions without expecting it to look exactly like her painting."
"Peg keeps instructions simple; you leave the class feeling you really can paint!"

Title: The WOW of Whites in Watercolor Date:Tuesday Evenings, October 2-November 6 Time: 6 to 8 pm Description: Using whites effectively in watercolor is a mystery to a lot of painters. This can especially be true for former oil, acrylic, and pastel painters. If you are going to use the white of the paper, you need to know what spaces to save and how to save them. You also should have a plan for connecting them throughout the painting. If you are going to add whites later, you should know how to use various opaque media. If you want to lift out color to get whites, you need to know about staining colors and lifting techniques. With 38 years of experience, Peg can show you all of these things. We will start by looking at how other artists use whites in their paintings to show light, add sparkle, and accentuate the other colors in the painting. Each student will choose one painting to study, and either copy or use the artist’s method in a similar way. We will then study how to start a painting with big shapes, going around the whites. We will also look at how to paint colorful shadows in white objects, such as clouds, animals, clothing, buildings, etc. Peg will also show you how to get back lost whites by lifting color, adding opaque whites, collaging with rice paper, etc. By the end of this class, your paintings will have improved and your skills will have jumped to new levels! Location: Larkin Arts, 61 Court Square, Harrisonburg, VA Cost: $165 Register: Call Larkin at (540)236-4223, or register online at www.larkinarts.com
