We could all use a little retreat right now. Fortunately, we have a perfect outside spot right in Harrisonburg, and an enthusiastic instructor to offer valuable tips in plein air painting. The arboretum is full of beautiful subjects to paint: flowers, trees, a pond with lily pads, a green heron, geese and ducks, turtles, songbirds, insects, a labyrinth, several gardens, and trails through an oak-hickory forest.
Peg will offer demonstrations, one-on-one assistance, a color worksheet, and critique. Students will sketch or paint what inspires them. Students will need to sign a Cover waiver, and follow CDC guidelines, including carrying hand sanitizer and wearing a mask around others. A public restroom is available. We suggest you bring a lunch. A materials list will be provided. Please do not sign up for the class if you do not feel ready to be active in a group. We will paint in that general area. Students will be notified by email by 8 am, if the class is postponed due to weather (see alternate date). Enjoy a relaxing day learning about watercolor painting. You don’t have to bring anything, and you do not need experience in watercolor painting. The instructor will provide quality paints, watercolor paper, brushes, a full color lesson, mat, coffee and tea and everything else you need to complete two watercolor paintings!
The Shenandoah Valley abounds in charming old barns, with interesting shapes and colors. The surrounding fields, rolling hills and mountains add to the beauty. Participants will learn how to draw and paint them in watercolors. In addition, you will learn how to paint barn wood in a convincing way. Bring your favorite photos of barns, animals and farms. This class includes demonstrations, color worksheets, and individual help. Wear old clothes or bring an apron. No experiences is needed.
Time includes a 45 minute lunch break. You may go out, or bring a lunch. There is a refrigerator and microwave. To enter the building, please use the first set of double doors on the west side of the Government Center (which is the side that faces Route 11).
