Title: Combining Organic and Geometric Forms in Watercolor Date:Saturday, September 28 Time: 10 am to 3 pm Skill Level: Beginner to advanced Description: Enjoy a relaxing day learning about watercolor painting. You don’t have to bring anything, and you do not need experience in watercolor painting. The instructor will provide quality paints, watercolor paper, brushes, a full color lesson, a mat, coffee and tea, and everything else you need to complete two watercolor paintings! Peg will start with the basic techniques of watercolor painting. Then, she will do a step-by-step demonstration of the lesson. You will learn to create a more graphic and contemporary look in your paintings, by using geometric shapes in your designs. All materials will provided, including quality paints, watercolor paper, brushes, a full color lesson, a mat, coffee and tea, and everything else you need to complete two watercolor paintings! Please bring any photos you have of favorite plants, flowers, animals, birds, landscapes, etc. Bring a lunch, or pick one up nearby. Title: Fish, Reptiles, and Amphibians in Watercolor Date: Tuesday, October 8, 2019 Time: 10 am to 3 pm Skill level:Beginner – Advanced Description: Join us as we learn to paint these fascinating creatures! We will learn how to paint an object to make it look wet and shiny. We will experiment with ways of painting the texture of the skin and scales of fish, frogs, turtles, lizards and snakes. Peg will show you how to mix the colors on the surface of the paper. We will plan and complete a painting, including the background habitat of the animal. All of these skills will carry over into your paintings of other subjects! Instructor Peg Sheridan has been painting in watercolors for 39 years, and teaching for 19 years. She is known for her encouraging, “no fears” way of teaching watercolor painting. She is a signature member of the Virginia Watercolor Society, and has won many regional awards for her paintings.

Title: Learning from the Masters II Dates: Mondays, September 30 - November 4 (six classes) Time: 9:00 am - 12 noon Skill Level: Beginner to advanced Description: You can learn a lot by studying the methods and paintings of masters in watercolor painting. Furthermore, they will inspire you to try new techniques in your own work! Join us as we study the work of artists such as: Winslow Homer, James McNeill Whistler, Charles Demuth, along with more contemporary watercolorists such as Skip Lawrence and Zoltan Szabo. We will look at each artist's techniques, and try them on our own paintings. You choose works that inspire you, and either copy them or use what your learned from their work to enrich paintings of your own images. Each student will also choose a watercolor master to either copy or inform his or her own paintings. The instructor will offer critiques and one-on-one help. A materials list will be provided.
