Shenandoah Valley Barns in Watercolor The Shenandoah Valley abounds with charming old barns. Many of them have interesting shapes and colors, and make great subjects for a painting. The surrounding fields, rolling hills and mountains add to the beauty. We will learn how to draw and paint them in watercolors. This class will emphasize how to paint buildings in landscapes in a convincing way. We will learn how to use light and shadow to make buildings look three dimensional. Bring your favorite photos of barns, sheds, animals and farms. Peg will also bring photos. The class includes demonstrations, color worksheets, and individual help. Most participants will complete two small paintings. Bring a friend or family member and make it even more fun!

We will practice important skills, such as: balancing soft and hard edges, layering and glazing, wet in wet painting, making granulating washes, and adding texture. We will also work on brush skills. Composing an interesting painting will be a part of each lesson. Weekly homework assignments will help you to make rapid progress. You choose the subject matter you'd like to paint.
