Title: Painting Nature in Watercolor Dates: Mondays, March 2 to April 6 Time: 9:00 am - 12 noon Skill Level: Beginner to advanced Description: Spring in the Shenandoah Valley is full of color and beauty. Let’s use this inspiration to create beautiful paintings of nature, and learn new techniques at the same time. Each week, we will focus on a different aspect of nature and watercolor techniques. Subject matter will include topics such as: spring landscapes, animals, birds, trees, rocks, creeks, etc. Each week, Peg will do a demonstration, hand out a color worksheet lesson, and offer individual help. Drawing, planning your painting, and using a limited palette of colors will be emphasized. Soon, your appreciation of the outdoors will be enriched, and your paintings will have improved. Title: One Day Color Workshop (Postponed) Date: Saturday, March 7, 2020 Time: 10-3 Skill Level: Beginner to advanced, age 12+ Enjoy a relaxing day learning about watercolor painting. You don’t have to bring anything and you do not need experience in watercolor painting. The instructor will provide quality paints, watercolor paper, brushes, a full color lesson, mat, coffee and tea and everything else you need to complete two watercolor paintings! There is so much to learn about color that it can be very confusing! What do all of these terms mean? How can I avoid making “mud” every time I paint? How do I mix the colors I want? What are warm and cool colors and why is it important? How can I use color to make my paintings better? Peg will cover all of these concepts, lead you through coloring mixing exercises, help you learn how to plan a pleasing color palette for your painting and make learning about color fun! Please bring a couple of photos of subjects that interest you and a lunch. Please wear old clothes or bring an apron. Register by February 28. Let’s see what this exciting medium can do! We will experiment with new techniques to help you loosen up and be more creative. Instead of trying to copy a photograph, we will paint our chosen subjects more freely. You will have fun as you watch as the paint reacts to the water, paper and gravity. Title: The Value of Value Sketches (Postponed) Date:Monday, May 11 Time: 9-4 Skill Level: Beginner to advanced, ages 13 and up The best way to improve your paintings, and have your work noticed in shows, is to learn to design with values. Peg will show you how to see, mix, and compose with light to dark values.You will learn how to make a value sketch in 5 to 15 minutes, saving yourself hours of correcting and dozens of failures. Then, learn how to assign colors to fit those values. When your value sketch works, you can choose any color palette and succeed. This class will include: demonstrations, color worksheets, and individual help. A supply list will be available.

Title: Painting the Essence of the Blue Ridge in Watercolor (Postponed) Date: Friday and Saturday, May 29 and 30 Time: 9-4 Skill Level: Beginner to advanced, ages 13 and up Join us as we learn to paint the things we love about our Blue Ridge Mountains! We will spend time learning how to paint rocks, trees, ridges, and fog. In the process, you will acquire many painting skills, including mixing color, painting wet-in-wet, creating texture, saving whites, and much more. You will learn how to compose a painting, how to plan values, how to choose a limited palette, and how to develop a painting.
