Registration Form for Fish, Reptiles, and Amphibians in Watercolor Workshop
Fish, Reptiles and Amphibians in Watercolor with Peg Sheridan www.pegsheridan.com/ (540)679-9396
Date: Tuesday, October 8, 2019 Time: 10 am - 3 pm Description: Join us as we learn to paint these fascinating creatures! We will learn how to paint an object to make it look wet and shiny. We will experiment with ways of painting the texture of the skin and scales of fish, frogs, turtles, lizards and snakes. Peg will show you how to mix the colors on the surface of the paper. We will plan and complete a painting, including the background habitat of the animal. All of these skills will carry over into your paintings of other subjects! Skill level: Beginner - Advanced
Materials List: Paper: I am not particular about brushes or paints, but I insist on Arches 140 lb. cold press watercolor paper. This is why: it is impossible to do the techniques I teach using cheap paper. You will need one half sheet (ripped or cut into fourths or so), or a watercolor tablet or block, etc. You can even paint on the backs of old paintings. Do not bring Strathmore of any weight. Brushes: Watercolor brushes, including: 1″ flat, #8 or #10 round, a small #2,3 or 4 round, any size rigger, and any other brushes you may want to bring. Bring your largest sized brushes, as they will help you to paint more loosely. Palette: A covered palette is preferred. If you cover it after a painting session, you can reuse the paint. Otherwise, a white china or plastic plate works for a palette. Paints: Student or professional grade paints, not Artists Loft brand (sold at Michaels). That brand has a lot of fillers, and will not work for this class. M.Graham, Daniel Smith, Winsor Newton, Holbein, or DaVinci brands are great for this class. You will need a warm and a cool of each of these colors: red, yellow, blue. You can also bring any brown. Colors I recommend are: Quinacridone gold or gamboge yellow (warm), azo, bismuth, Hansa, areolin or lemon yellow (cool), Quinacridone red, Pyrrol red, Napthol red or Cadmium red (warm), Quinacridone Rose or Alizarin Crimson or Rose Madder (cool), Ultramarine or cobalt blue (warm/neutral), Prussian blue or Antwerp blue or turquoise blue (cool), Quincridone burnt orange, Quinacridone rust, or Burnt sienna. Add any of your favorite colors. A board: Any firm surface, such as masonite, foamcore, etc. It should be about 8X10 to 11X14. The rest: -A drawing pencil (B or HB or H) -Sketchbook or loose paper, to take notes and make small sketches. -Paper towels -Water container (about the size of a large yogurt or mayo container). -Bring references photos of fish, reptiles, or amphibians of your preference. Look for images with a range of light to dark, big shapes, and interesting compositions.
