Materials List (call me if you have questions):
Palette: A covered palette with at least one large mixing area is preferred.
Watercolor Paints: Student or professional grade watercolors, not Artists Loft brand (sold at Michaels). M. graham, Daniel Smith, Winsor Newton, Holbein, or DaVinci are all good brands. You will need a warm and a cool of these colors: yellow, red, and blue. I suggest the following: Quincridone gold or gamboge yellow (warm); azo, bismuth, Hansa, or aureolin (cool); Quinacridone red, Pyrrol red, Napthol red or Cadmium red (warm); Quinacridone Rose or Magenta, Alizarin Crimson, or Rose Madder (cool); Ultramarine or cobalt blue (warm/neutral); Prussian, Thalo, Antwerp or Cerulean blue (cool). Also bring a gray (Indigo, Paynes Gray, or Neutral tint). Titanium white gouache is optional. Add any of your favorite colors. Part of the goal of this class is to get you to know more about the many colors you can mix from what you already have.
Brushes: Watercolor brushes, including a 1.5" or 2" wash brush, a 1" flat, #8 or #10 round, any size rigger, and any other brushes you may want to bring. A scrubber is also very handy (it removes mistakes). My favorite is Cheap Joe's Fritch Scrubber. Bring any other brushes you like to use.
A pencil (I use a 2H), eraser, and something to take notes on (or a sketchbook)
Paper towels or rags
A water container, about the size of a large mayo or yogurt container.
Professional grade (Arches 140 lb cold press) watercolor paper. You will need 2-3 full sheets for the whole 6 weeks (or use a tablet or block). You can rip or cut paper to a size that fits a standard mat. Also bring scraps or the blank side of old paintings, to practice on. Please don't bring Strathmore or Cotman paper; it will not work for the techniques we will be learning.
A board to place your paper on, unless you’re using a pad, tablet or block. It can be foam core, wood, etc. It should be slightly larger than your paper. Also bring a roll of tape or small block of wood to prop up the top of your board about 1.5 inche
A roll of masking, artist, or blue painters tape
Photos and/or sketches of subjects you want to paint
